Newsletter Issue 5 June 2010
Comment from Jeff Ivey

Welcome to the latest Haes Systems newsletter.

It is hard to believe that June is here already. We have had a busy start to the year, focusing on becoming the ‘one stop shop’ for all your fire alarm system requirements. We are constantly increasing our product range and some of the latest additions are featured in this newsletter. These include an innovative detector tester from No Climb Products and new magnetic door retainers, from German manufacturer, Kendrion.

We have also been working on developing our customer satisfaction survey which will be launched shortly. Your feedback on our company, products and services is essential in order for Haes Systems to continue to provide you with the support you require.

Earlier this year saw the departure from the company of Russell Povey, our Northern and Scottish region sales manager. We are currently searching for a replacement to cover this area. In the meantime, please contact our sales administration team on 01895 424505, or by email enquiries@haes-systems.co.uk for any assistance with products or sales orders.

Haes Systems is in the process of installing a new sales order processing system. This system is due to go live on 5 July, and although we do not expect it to cause any major disruptions, you may find it beneficial to allow extra time for any urgent orders.

Finally, in this newsletter’s ‘employee profile’ we talk to Brian Wood, our Service Manager, about his job, his thoughts on Haes Systems and the company’s role in the future of the fire industry.

Thanks,

Jeff Ivey

The brand new TESTIFIRE

Testifire is the innovative new product from No Climb Products Ltd.

For the first time, a detector tester has been developed that combines detector testing for smoke, heat and CO in one product. This significant breakthrough in technology enables faster and more efficient testing of single and multi-sensor detectors.

This fantastic new product also exceeds health, safety, environmental and technological demands of 21st century testing, with a wide range of benefits that will appeal to our customers. Testifire makes detector testing simpler, quicker and more cost effective while complying with International Standards.

The product range of Testifire enables testing of optical / photoelectric and ionization smoke sensors, thermal sensors (fixed temperature or rate-of-rise), and carbon monoxide (CO) fire sensors; be they conventional, addressable or analogue addressable.

The Testifire product is fully field portable for functional testing of single and multi-sensor fire detectors.

How it works
The Testifire works simply by generating stimuli appropriate to the detector being tested. It does this using safe and patented processes fuelled by replaceable capsules without pressurised cans or hazardous media.

There are two models available, the Testifire 1000 for testing smoke or heat detectors (or a combination thereof) and Testifire 2000 for testing smoke, heat and CO detectors, testing either in isolation or as part of a combination.

To find out more go to www.testifire.com/site/home/ or call your Haes Systems Sales Account Manager to place your order.

A range of complete Testing Kits are available from No Climb Products through Haes Systems. You can use this handy Product Selector [Download PDF] to match the most appropriate product to your needs.

Five things you didn’t know about...

The range of benefits of Testifire products

Testifire is faster, more advanced and more intelligent than any other detector test product on the market. It brings unrivalled benefits to Service Technicians, Maintenance Companies and Detector Manufacturers.

  1. Using Testifire is the fastest and most cost-effective way to detector test!
The Testifire is just one tool with combined stimuli, making it quicker and easier to use than other detector testers being used together. This simultaneous testing means test times can be reduced by up to 66% and the clearing cycle provides rapid detector reset with no repeat alarm. Further to this, the heat detector test times are reduced through enhanced deployment of heat and wider range of temperature settings and the increased test capacities from both Smoke and CO capsules mean real cost savings can be made on materials.

  2. Testifire is the most technologically advanced detector tester
The Testifire’s optimised smoke delivery method enables activation of complex detectors: the sole functional test method of triggering such detectors. It has the ability to perform ‘witness’ tests for the first time on smoke or multi-sensor detectors with complex and / or independent algorithms. Finally, the Testifire also is fully upgradable through firmware updates for future smoke, heat and CO profiles; ensuring you are always up to date technologically, and one step ahead of the competition.

  3. There are Environmental benefits to using Testifire
The Testifire uses Smoke and CO capsules rather than pressurised aerosols, addressing concerns over global warming (GWP) and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) while continuing to retain safe, non-flammable test stimuli.

  4. Testifire ticks the boxes for Health, Safety and Hazards
Testifire does not require the use of pressurised canisters for both Smoke and CO, eliminating hazardous surcharges therefore making it safer to use. The on-demand CO generation also makes it safer for CO testing as well as all test stimuli being non-flammable, non toxic and plastic compatible. This also means there is no residue or detector damage incurred through misuse.

  5. Testifire meets industry standards
The Testifire has the ability to test all popular types and/or combinations of fire sensors, delivering cost effective compliance with global test standards.

The Testifire itself, is suitable for use on Smoke (optical, dual optical, ionization), Heat (rate of rise, fixed temperature), CO, Multi Sensor, Conventional, Addressable and Intelligent detectors from global manufacturers as well as being:

    • CE, EMC, RoHS and WEEE compliant

    • Tested and approved by world leading detector manufacturers

Employee Profile

Brian Wood is the Service Manager at Haes Systems

How long have you worked at Haes Systems?
I joined the company in 1991 as a service engineer.  Prior to this I was an apprentice electrician with an electrical installation company.

What does your job entail?
Since becoming Service Manager in 2008, my responsibilities revolve around managing my team of 5 engineers and commissioning Haes fire panels on behalf of our customers.  My time is split between being at customer sites, preparing quotations and assisting with technical support.

How has your job changed over your time here?
Well, my responsibilities have definitely grown.  I now spend my time dealing directly with customers, surveying sites, quoting and looking at an individual’s requirements.  During 2009 we saw an opportunity to increase our offerings by carrying out Fire Risk Assessments (FRA’s).  After completing a course at the FIA we started carrying out FRA’s and so far it has been very successful with positive feedback from our customers.  The experience I have gained from completing FRA’s has definitely benefitted other aspects of my role.

What do you see for the future of the fire protection industry and Haes Systems’ role in this?
As with other areas of health & safety, 3rd party accreditation and approval within the fire industry are becoming essential.  We responded by gaining BAFE SP203 accreditation for the commissioning and handover of fire alarm systems.  We are also delighted with the progress of our new panel, the Fusion, for which we are awaiting LPCB approval.

What do you like about working at Haes Systems?
Well I enjoy my job, and work with a great team of engineers.  I am interested in what I do and I feel like there is progression; if there is something I am unsure about I can research it further and expand my knowledge, which is great for me and for the service we can offer from Haes.

What are your hobbies?
I am an active person, interested in most sports, especially motor racing. I like to be out and about and have given all kinds of things a go in the past; skiing, scuba diving, trekking etc.

What is your pet hate?
The one thing I can say, I do not like it when people are unprofessional at work.  I put a lot into my work and I expect the same of others, so it does disappoint me when that is not the case.

Free Training Courses
Haes Systems hosts a regular training course on the addressable range of control panels. This is held at Haes Systems offices in Uxbridge on the first Tuesday of every month. To take advantage of these free training events you can book your place by downloading a form.

Your Regional Sales Manager can organise training on our conventional control panels at a time and place convenient to you.
