Welcome to the Haes Systems newsletter. I hope you are all looking forward the Christmas break, we certainly are here at Haes Systems after a significantly busy year for us. We have seen the successful launch of the revolutionary new Fusion control panel, the only control panel combining an analogue addressable alarm system with conventional and twin wire technologies. Also, this year has been the inception of our new Approved Partner Programme enabling us to build stronger relationships with our committed fire alarm installers, growing their businesses and our own despite this difficult financial time.
It doesn’t stop there!
Haes Systems plans for the New Year include carrying out a number of surveys with various stakeholders to find out what their thoughts are on Haes Systems; our products and services and how we can improve. Feedback is extremely important to us as it helps us to work to the benefit of everyone.
In this newsletter, we talk to the new sales manager Russell Povey about his new role and how he is settling in at Haes Systems. There is new product information on the new Smokesabre by No Climb Products and there is also information Haes Systems contribution in the local community.

Brand NEW F Clips
To help provide our customers with all their fire alarm system requirements we are continually reviewing and extending the range of products we offer. One recent addition to our offering is Fire Clips or ‘F clips’. These are fire cable fixing clips for use with mini-trunking.
BS5839-1:Section 2 26.2 (f) states that ”methods of cable support should be non-combustible and such that circuit integrity will not be reduced below that afforded by the cable used, and should withstand a similar temperature and duration to that of the cable, while maintaining adequate support.” The F clips will help ensure your installations are meeting the relevant standards.
Important information about the discontinuation of Vector control panels
Due to the recent launch of the Fusion control panel, the only control panel to combine an analogue addressable alarm system with conventional and twin wire technologies, Haes
Systems are announcing the subsequent discontinuation of the analogue addressable only Vector from 1 April 2010. However, in order for there to be a smooth transition it will be possible to purchase additional or spare boards for the Vector for a minimum of 3 years from the withdrawal date.

| Cooper Fulleon Flashni Range EXPLAINED! |
|
 |
Despite the apparent simplicity of the Flashni the number of variations in specification can cause confusion. From the options of colour, base type, lens colour, voltage, tone switch and terminal options, it is possible to make short of 500 different configurations, although in reality only 150 are actually manufactured.
The Flashni is one of the longest established products in the Fulleon portfolio. Essentially it is a simple product; a Roshni with a small xenon beacon on top, providing a compact audible and visual alarm in a single unit, to help reduce installation costs.
To shed a little light on the complexities of the Flashni, the following points highlight some of the choices to be made when specifying a product:
Voltage – unlike most other Fulleon products the Flashni is not universal voltage product and must be specified for 12Vdc (9 to 15Vdc) or 24Vdc (18 to 28Vdc).
Tone switch – the Roshni on which Flashni is based generally fitted with a tone switch allowing the selection of any one of 32 alarm tones, the Flashni however is not fitted with a tone switch unless specified, so if there is any uncertainty about the alarm tone to be used then specify a unit with a switch. If no switch is specified then 24Vdc products are preset to tone 3 (fire tone), 12Vdc to tone 5 (security tone), these cannot be changed later.
Terminations – the standard Flashni is configured so that the beacon and sounder are linked together, of the sounder is operating than the beacon will flash.
There are also versions called “Flashni Separate”, these are configured with separate connections for the beacon and sounder so that independent control is possible.
Colour – Body colour can be red or white, and lens colour can be red, amber, clear, blue or green.
Base – Standard Fulleon Shallow Deep of U lockable bases. (The mains powered base is available as an accessory only and must be ordered separately. |

Name: Russell Povey
Job Title: Northern and Scottish Sales Manager
So you have been at Haes Systems now for a few months, how are you finding it?
My experience at Haes Systems so far has been a very positive one. It is a laidback and friendly place to work. It still very much possesses a family atmosphere, a lot less ‘corporate’ than where I was previously which was a major global enterprise. I will be honest, in comparison it has been a bit of a culture shock for me! But, I am really appreciating the differences between the two places and I am enjoying it very much.
What was your job before?
I had the same title at my previous employer, but my target market was slightly different there and my focus was predominantly panel sales. Mainly, I was speaking to end users directly; these being site managers or fire officers looking after major systems and also working with the fire brigade.
I have worked in the fire industry though for 25 years. I have worked in installation, servicing, commissioning and engineering so my responsibilities have been varied.
And now at Haes Systems, what are your responsibilities?
I am a regional sales manager working the North and Scotland, my target market here is much more small-to-medium systems houses. I am working mainly with contractors, supporting them with technical queries, helping them apply for compliance standards and engineering solutions for specific projects. I get out and about to meet customers for about 3.5 days and then 1.5 days to organise admin and my schedules and such like. Haes Systems have a significantly larger product offering than my previous place of work but I feel my aim is to increase Haes Systems’s product profile in the marketplace.
So there is a difference between the smaller and larger companies?
There definitely is a difference in organisational culture; the flexibility I have at Haes is not only liberating but also means I can make better decisions based on a deal by deal basis, which is great for the customer and for Haes Systems.
Even in my short time working at Haes Systems, I can see that there have been many changes. If Jeff continues to direct the company as he is in his current management style, I envisage great things for our future. There is no doubt that Haes Systems has the capabilities now to significantly grow their share in the current marketplace and also possibly expand further into the export business. By Haes Systems concentrating on developing their own brand products as well as being a thriving distributor I think they will be very successful.
What are your thoughts on the future of the fire protection industry generally?
With the introduction of the FSO 2005 and such like, Haes Systems and others in the industry are increasingly looking to regulate their products and services, this progress will definitely help Haes Systems be able to expand into a global market. The industry in general is becoming more self-regulating and therefore, is more credible and respected.
Hobbies
My main hobby is scuba diving. I have been diving for about 10 years and enjoy it so much that I am now actually a qualified instructor! I have dived in a number of places now and there are some fascinating things to see.
Pet hates
Well there are a couple of things! But I would have to say when someone breaks a promise – nothing worse! |
